About Us

The Washington Business Policy Institute is a nonprofit, nonpartisan 501(c)(4) organization established by the DC Chamber of Commerce to strengthen the economic vitality and competitiveness of the District of Columbia. Created to elevate the voice of the business community in the policy arena, the Institute brings together research, advocacy, and civic leadership to shape a stronger economic future for Washington, DC.

We conduct independent, data‑driven research on the tax, economic, and regulatory issues affecting employers across the District; convene business leaders, policymakers, and civic stakeholders to foster informed dialogue; and promote public education and civic engagement on the issues that matter most to DC’s economic health.

As a social welfare organization, the Institute engages in political advocacy and issue campaigns permitted under Section 501(c)(4), ensuring that the business community’s perspective is represented in the development of policies that impact the District’s long‑term growth and competitiveness.

Our work is grounded in the belief that a strong, inclusive, and competitive business environment is essential to expanding opportunity, driving job growth, and supporting prosperity for DC residents in every ward.
